English for Educators: 14 Hours of 1-to-1, Focused Instruction for Teachers/Paraeducators
The problem is that you have problems communicating orally with co-workers, principals, parents, and students. You feel confused about cultural issues present at work because it is such a foreign environment to you. At work, you feel lost because you don't know idioms/expressions and education-related terminology that are thrown about about in emails, conversations, and meetings. When you want to share an idea or want to say something important at work, you don't feel confident enough to advocate for yourself or your students, or express your ideas during meetings, to your supervisor, to parents, etc. Parents may not trust you because you don't speak English as a first language. Additionally, you may feel isolated from your colleagues, like you have no friends around you.
What scares you most is that you will get stuck in your current position, not be able to make as much of an impact as possible, and miss future career opportunities. You are passionate about education and helping your students, but not being able to communicate orally well is hindering your professional progress. Additionally, you fear you won't be able to make meaningful connections with your colleagues. You may not reach your full potential or feel like you have attained more confidence and fluency in English.
At the end of this 14-week, one-on-one course, you will:
-speak more clearly with co-workers, principals, parents, and students.
